Blind Pig Who Wants To Fly is various sketches of humanity, of surviving in a community.

I once had a Chinese name, but I have already forgotten it by now. We are trained to bury our identity, hide our expressions and live for security.
The worst part is, once you are given your freedom, you already forgot yourself, don’t know how it feels to be the real you. You no longer recognize your identity and roots.
It hurts, how history stamps over one’s life journey, an inconvenient emotion, confusion and ambiguity of your existence.

At the very beginning of the project, we were pretty much confident, that the Indonesian Chinese community would support us. Instead, the common reply was ‘Why do you have to talk about this? We are secure now.’

Many of our friends support us.
From there we went around here and there, from equipment rental house, to commercial production house, to sound mixing studio, to independent film exhibitor. We are lucky enough to meet these people who supported us.
Armed with passion for the film, we started shooting in November 2006.

But we needed cash for the shoot.

Finally we managed to gather funds from selling our Home VDO rights, got a script development fund and combined with the money had, we finally completed the shoot of Blind Pig Who Wants To Fly, in Jakarta-Surabaya-Bromo by the end of July 2007.

We had to wait for a while to gather some money again for post-production, which started in late December 2007 until gradual completion in September 2008.
And we got post production fund.

Making ‘Blind Pig who wants to Fly’ is beyond making a film.
The process of making the film became in itself our healing process.

A journey as tough as life, as Edwin initiated this film back then in 2005,
Blind Pig Who Wants To Fly is a life experience itself, our life experience.
